Watershed Coordinator

  • Conducted quality assurance quality control on water samples collected by volunteers in a lab setting

  • Collected water and macroinvertebrate samples from local streams to determine health of the stream

  • Analyzed and visualized data sets over time to identify seasonal trends and reasons for concern to be shared with volunteers at each site

  • Educated volunteers in all age groups through both in-person and virtual settings on how to maintain local water health and to inform corrective action

  • Designed and developed educational materials and author articles about the efforts of ALLARM and the importance of waterway health

  • Facilitated weekly staff meetings, providing a space for all workers to share progress and ask questions

  • Participated in laboratory, office and powerhouse safety walkthroughs in order to identify hazards and recommend corrective action

  • Developed communications in digital and physical forms to promote pro-active behavior and enhance overall safety both on and off the job

  • Updated Spill Prevention procedure to ensure regulatory compliance with special emphasis on improving notification and preparedness processes

  •  Conducted physical check of inventories of chemicals of interest, storage tanks, and pedestrian safety on campus

·        Gave feedback on current issues and suggestions for future improvements in sustainability and safety on campus

 

“Water Monitoring 101,” Chesapeake Bay Forum                                                                        November 2018

·        Co-presented a three-hour workshop on the chemical and biological parameters used in water monitoring

·        Taught macroinvertebrate identification and chemical analysis to a wide range of experience levels  

Research

Characterization of Mercury Concentration and Distribution in Laurel Lake                        December 2019

·        Presented research proposal and designed experiment with team of four others to test mercury levels in a local lake

·        Took sediment cores and used a Direct Mercury Analyzer 80 (DMA-80) to analyze mercury accumulation over time

·        Presented conclusions in an infographic that could be provided to the stakeholders

 

Effect of Cover Crop Diversity on Entomopathogenic Nematode (EPN) Infection Rates               December 2019

·        Developed research idea and proposal with team of three

·        Took soil cores and monitored the death of waxworms placed in that soil

·        Magnified and dissected waxworms to identify the presence of EPN

 

Glacial and Volcanic Research Assistant, Iceland                                                                          July 2019

·        Took aerial photography using a drone to show the receding of glaciers over time when compared to past data sets

·        Took drone photography of glacially formed topography to later be used in maps

·        Helped identify and gather volcanic glass samples
